When a Man Loves a Woman

The Birds and The Bees - and Butterflies

We have released 17 monarchs so far in the past week - and they have been a good mix of males and females. Luckily, at least one pair (or possibly some other monarchs) have done their thing and there are eggs all over!

We still have a bunch of chrysalises to go, but my little helper has been great with helping me release.  What he gets impatient with - and leaves for me is leaf peepin - otherwise known as hunting for eggs (it's not just for Easter kids!)

I have collected about 20 new eggs! It started as me clipping flowers for a pair (one male, one female) that eclosed during a terribly windy morning. It wasn't safe to let them go, so I clipped some flowers for the enclosure and, as I tore off some leaves so that I could put the branch in water, there it was! A lone egg!

After about 30 minutes, I came inside with 19 more. The stems are wrapped and hopefully these little guys will hatch soon and we can star round two!
